Adopting
a child on the Costa Blanca.
If
you think of adopting a child in Spain there is a few steps you
will have to follow. The first step is to contact the child
care
centre (Centro de Atencion al Niño) . At the Centro de Atencion
al Niño you will talk to a social worker who will introduce
you to the following steps. There is quit a lot of controls to
go through. Psychologists and social workers will be involved.
When
you pas the control you will be given the Certificate stating that
you are suitable for adopting a child. This certificate is called
Certificado de Idoneidad in Spanish.
There
is 2 ways to go to obtain the Certificado de Idoneidad. One is
to sign up for a free interview process. This can take up to
two
years. (before the interviews start)
You
will be required to present: official birth certificates, criminal
records , plans of your home, certified copies of your identification,
international marriage certificates, income and employment status
verifications and photos of you and your home.
It
is possible to speed up the process by paying the psychology
and social workers college to do the required studies and test.
Included
in this will be interviews and home visits.
When
you finely get the certificate you can start the process of adopting.
Most of the adoptions will be international adoption because
the competition for adopting a Spanish baby is very high.
The
country you can adopt from is limited to the countries that have
adoption agreements with Spain. How long the adoption process take
depend on were your child is from. In many cases one or two visits
to your child´s home country will be required. |
