Alcoy on the Costa Blanca in Spain is known for its bridges and for being an industrial pioneer in the Valencian community. During the second half of the eighteen century Alcoy was a pioneer in the industrial revolution. Alcoy participated in workers movements only seen elswhere in Barcelona.The rich bourgeoisie enriched the town with grandiose modernist buildings. The thriving industry helped with fonds for building bridges between the different parts of the town that constantly were growing. Alcoy is situated 54 kilometers from the capital Alicante and 94 kilometers from Benidorm. The Moors and Christian festivities are held between the 22 and 24 of April. |
