During the Moorish occupation Sella on the Costa Blanca in Spain was the most prosperous town in the region. It was totally inhabited by Moors. During the times of Felipe III the Moorish population was removed and the town lost its cultural identity and empowered.The Sella of today is a farming town that suffers from the fact that many of its inhabitants take better paid jobs in the tourist sector on the coast. Sella is a typical village with steep narrow streets located on the slopes of the Sierra Aitana. Sella has a population of 590 inhabitants and the altitude is 419. Sella is located in the southern part of the Sierra Aitana. The Best way to get to Sella is from Villajoyosa 16 kilometers away. Distance to Benidorm is 26 km and to Alicante 50 km Typical dishes are Sea urchins and coques (flat sponge coke) with tomatoes (pizza-like pastries). Monuments to see: The archaeological remains of Roman period and the ruins of a Moorish castle and ancient mill. Sella is perfect for those who would like to do some Walking.
