Villajoyosa on the Costa Blanca in Spain is the historical and administrative capital of the Marina Baixa area.

Villajoyosa means happy town. The town is located 32 km from Alicante and 10 km from Benidorm. Villajoyosa stretches out along side a sandy beach, bordered with palm trees and ends at its fishing port.

The economy of Villajoyosa depends both on shallow-water and deep-sea fishing together with the tourism industry. The history of Villajoyosa has it’s foundation in the town’s relationship with the sea.

This history of life on the sea and overseas trade has also been a determining factor in the success of its other typical industry the chocolate.

Villajoyosa on the Costa Blanca in Spain has preserved many of its typical customs like the afternoon fish auction and its colorful facades. This was done with the purpose of ensuring that the sailors could see their houses from far away.

The typical old walled town centre in Villajoyosa is a good place to stop and walk around.

Villajoyosa has more than 3 kilometers of beaches. The most famous beaches are the centro beach (downtown) both sandy and with the EU blue flag award for cleanliness. The Paradis beach, the Xarco beach and the Torres beach. The cove of Raco Conill is perfect for diving and naturism.

Sites to see:

The old town of Villajoyosa with its colorful facades. The tower, the old walls and the Roman bridges. There is also a Gothic/ Catalan church.

For the food lover:

Apart from paella typical dishes to mention are: Fish stews and different rice dishes. The best place to find a good restaurant is in the port or on the beach. Salted fish is also very famous. Do not miss out on Villajoyosa's famous turrón and chocolate.

If party all night is what you would like the metropolis of Benidorm is just 10 km away and offers a wide choice of bars and discos.
